A special filing period will be held Dec. 13-15, 2021, for the Feb. 8, 2022, Drainage District Election. Offices are open for election in each of Pierce County’s eight drainage districts.
File in person at the Pierce County Election Center, 2501 S. 35th St., Suite C, in Tacoma. A declaration of candidacy can also be submitted by mail. All declarations must be received by Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2021.

To file for office, you must be registered to vote in the state of Washington for a period of not less than 30 days before the election, and the owner of land located in the special district for a period of not less than 30 days before the election.

Pierce County has eight drainage districts across the county. The districts are generally in rural areas and provide for maintenance of local drainage/ditch improvements. Districts are small in size with 500 to 2,000 voters each. Drainage district elections are held every two years.
