Improvements coming to 92nd Avenue East and 224th Street East intersection

Note: Updated work hours went into effect Feb. 17, 2022.

Work to improve safety and traffic operations at the 92nd Avenue East and 224th Street East intersection will begin Jan. 27 and run through mid-summer 2023.

Visit www.piercecountywa.gov/crp5819 for project updates.

Project features
A nearly half-mile stretch along 224th Street East near its intersection with 92nd Avenue East will be improved.

A traffic signal system will be installed at the intersection, which is located by the Graham Pierce County Library. An eastbound left-turn lane and westbound left-turn and right-turn lanes will also be added at the intersection.

A two-way left-turn lane will be added west of 90th Avenue East and between 90th Avenue East and 92nd Avenue East.

Street lighting, an enclosed storm drainage system, stormwater treatment and storage facilities, and concrete curbs, gutters and sidewalks will also be installed.

Construction schedule
Site preparation work will run from Jan. 27 through March 2022. Utility relocation work will then run through the summer and into the winter. After the utility work is complete, the project will be suspended until April 2023. The project is expected to be complete in mid-summer 2023.

Traffic impacts
In 2022, work hours will be 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. During the site preparation and utility relocation work, traffic will be shifted around work areas and a detour for westbound traffic may be needed.

Pacific Civil & Infrastructure Inc. is the project contractor. The construction cost is approximately $3.2 million and is funded by federal Highway Safety Improvement Program funds.
