Dear Friends,
Below is some information I just received that many of you have been waiting for:
Pierce County Department of Planning and Public Works (PPW) is pleased to announce we anticipate 264th Street East west of 134th Avenue East will reopen by Labor Day weekend! Following a culvert washout, on January 7, 2022, 264th St. E. was closed to through traffic between Orting Kapowsin Highway E. and 118th Ave E. Unanticipated high groundwater levels and supply chain impacts delayed a permanent road repair. The supply chain issues have been resolved, but the high groundwater levels remains.
PPW will be installing a temporary fix which will allow the road to reopen. Construction on this temporary roadway/culvert improvement will start the week of Aug. 8 and scheduled to be completed by Labor Day weekend. Work hours will be 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday - Thursday. Access to nearby businesses will be maintained during this work.
The repair work consists of installing two 36-inch pipes to allow the channel flow to pass under the roadway. The roadway surface will be rebuilt to allow the road to be reopened until a permanent repair can be completed. Permanent repair is scheduled for Summer 2023, and will include a 16-foot-wide box culvert and support fish passage.
Details will be posted at www.PierceCountyWa.gov/264thCulvert as they are available.
Grateful for you!
