FEMA offering free Base Flood Elevations training in 2023

Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Region 10 is offering free training for finding base flood elevations at properties.

Who should attend?

This virtual training is designed to help floodplain administrators, surveyors, and other professionals better understand how to properly find Base Flood Elevations (BFEs) for use in floodplain management permitting, Elevation Certificates, and outreach efforts.

Benefits

Obtaining BFEs from the correct source is a fundamental part of ensuring buildings are built safely if in floodplains. This training will give you tools to read riverine Flood Insurance Study stream profiles and find BFEs, and also the appropriate sources for BFEs in every flood zone. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and get more one-on-one assistance.

Registration

Visit the Northwest Regional Floodplain Management Association’s (NORFMA) website or click the registration link below to enroll. Space is limited.

Note: After you register you will not receive a calendar invite to the training, so make sure to create a calendar invite for yourself. You will get a Zoom meeting link on the day of the training.

Please contact Mitch Paine at [email protected] if you have any questions about the FEMA training and Dennis Dixon at [email protected] for questions about Pierce County’s higher regulatory standards and use of best available data.

For future sessions and other floodplain management training opportunities, visit NORFMA’s calendar.
