Special Filing Period – May 24-26, 2023

A special filing period will be held May 24-26, 2023, as no candidate filings were received during the regular filing period for the following offices:

City of Roy – Council Position 3
Town of South Prairie – Council Position 5
Carbonado Historical School District No. 19 – Director Position 3
Fire Protection District No. 10 (Fife)– Commissioner Position 3
Fire Protection District No. 23 (Ashford) – Commissioner Positions 1 and 3
Fire Protection District No. 25 (Crystal Mountain) - Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3
Fire Protection District No. 26 (Greenwater) – Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3
Ashford Water District – Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3
Burnett Water District – Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3 
Clear Lake Water District – Commissioner Position 2
Elbe Water District – Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3 
Elkhorn Water District – Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3
Kapowsin Water District – Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3|
Kopachuck Ridge Estates Water District – Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3
Crystal Mountain Sewer District – Commissioner Positions 1, 2 and 3

RCW 29A.24.181 requires a special three-day filing period for those offices where no one filed during the regular filing period.

Candidates who file during the special filing period will appear on the General Election ballot. No Primary Election will be held.

Filing for office
Online candidate filing opens at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 24, and closes at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 26. To file your declaration of candidacy go to PierceCountyElections.org and choose the “File for Office” link.

In-person filing is available during business hours (8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.) on May 24-26 at the Pierce County Election Center, located at 2501 South 35th Street, Suite C in Tacoma.

Be prepared to:

  • Provide an email address.
  • Use a campaign mailing address, phone number and website address when you file for office. If you don’t, your voter registration address will be published online in the list of candidates who have filed.

Voters’ pamphlet information submittal
After you file for office during this special filing period, you will have an opportunity to submit your statement and photo for the General Election Official Local Voters’ Pamphlet. If this information is not submitted online by 4:30 p.m. by June 2, 2023, your statement and photo will not appear in the voters’ pamphlet.

Special note for water-sewer districts with fewer than 100 residents 
If you are a registered voter of the state of Washington and you own land in the district, you may file as a candidate for and serve as a district commissioner. Please contact Pierce County Elections for further instructions on how to file.
