$2M awarded for homeless prevention

Pierce County Human Services is announcing the Homeless Prevention awards from the American Rescue Plan Fund. This funding is allocated through the Pierce County Council in response to the Comprehensive Plan to End Homelessness.

$2M was available to allocate to projects that address the development of supported shared housing units for those unable to afford to live alone, provide financial counseling and life skills to at-risk households, and expand diversion services to households at risk of experiencing homelessness. Over $13M in projects were requested and the following organizations and programs were awarded:

Serving homeless and at-risk of homelessness families within five East Pierce County school districts with financial assistance and case management.

Key Peninsula Community Services

Food bank staffing for the Key Peninsula Food Bank programs Bread Closet and Emergency Food Support.

LASA with Sound Outreach

This partnership will provide financial assistance and counseling to families experiencing homelessness in the Franklin Pierce School District and the City of Lakewood.

Multicultural Child and Family Hope Center

Serve low-income households with financial literacy and diversion services.
$485,052

Pierce County Housing Authority

Serve participants with rental assistance and move-in costs from three Section 8 voucher programs who are in the ‘lease-up’ process.
$250,000


Funding is allocated for a 2-year month period between January 1, 2024 – December 30, 2025, and was made available through the American Rescue Plan (ARPA), which was signed into law by President Biden on March 11, 2021.
