Falls are not a natural part of aging. Unexpected falls can result in serious and costly injury, from minor sprains and bruises or to major bone breaks. They can even result in hospitalization or death. As the number of seniors continues to grow, the number of fall-related injuries continues to increase, but the good news is that most falls can be prevented.
Pierce County Human Services and the Pierce County Fall Prevention Coalition is sponsoring an event to raise awareness about fall-related injuries among older adults. Join us on Fall Prevention Day, Sept. 22, from 11 – 1 p.m. at the Gordon Family YMCA, located at 16104 64th St. E in Sumner.
Participants will receive valuable information, learn fall prevention tips, have the opportunity to join exercise demos, win giveaways and more! Service providers and other community resources will be available to support fall prevention awareness.
This event is free and open to the public. No RSVP or YMCA membership is required. For more information about fall prevention, visit www.fallsfreepiercecounty.org or call the Pierce County Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 253-798-4600.
