TACOMA, WA – Today Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist charged Andrake Dion Morris, 18, in twelve crimes committed on five separate occasions between March 23, 2012 and March 18, 2013. The defendant was arrested after he attacked and sexually assaulted a woman at Tender Heart Learning Center in Tacoma, and the investigation linked him to four previous incidents.
“The Tacoma Police detectives on the Tender Heart daycare attempted rape case did an excellent job at tying together these five crime scenes,” said Prosecutor Mark Lindquist. "The community is safer now with the defendant in custody."
On March 23, 2012, around 10:30 p.m., C.K. entered a Walgreens, and noticed the defendant masturbating in the parking lot. When she left the store, the defendant grabbed her from behind a pillar and a struggle ensued. He sexually assaulted her through her clothing. She freed herself, and he fled. Lakewood Police officers responded to the scene and obtained the defendant's description.
In the early morning of August 17, 2012, the defendant entered M.B.'s living room and masturbated over R.M., who was asleep on the couch. When M.B. entered her living room, she saw the defendant leave through the window with her laptop. Tacoma Police officers responded to the scene, obtained DNA and a description of the defendant.
At noon on October 27, 2012, S.A. was in front of a Walgreens with her two young children. As she rented a movie, the defendant came up behind her, and pressed a gun against her neck. He demanded that she drop her wallet, and she complied. He picked it up, then fled. The victim rushed her children into the store. Tacoma Police officers responded to the scene, and S.A. stated she could identify the defendant if he was located.
At approximately 8:00 p.m. on January 28, 2013, V.S. entered the laundry room in her apartment complex. The defendant came up behind her, grabbed her around the waist, and put a handgun to her head. When his attempt to remove her clothing failed, he forced her hand into his pants, and threatened to kill her. When V.S. claimed that there were surveillance cameras, the defendant fled. Tacoma Police officers responded to the scene, obtained the defendant's description.
On March 18, 2013 at about 6:00 a.m., the defendant arrived at the Tender Heart Learning Center daycare, claiming he wanted to register his child. The defendant entered the building, then brutally attacked K.L., and presumably sexually assaulted her. Her mother arrived, and saw the defendant over the victim. The defendant fled with the victim’s wedding ring and iPhone. Tacoma Fire and Police officers arrived at the scene and immediately transported the victim to the hospital.
Later that day, Tacoma Police officers arrested the defendant. During the search and investigation, police connected the defendant with these five incidents. The victims identified the defendant in a photomontage and the items reported stolen were found in a search of the defendant's home.
The defendant has four juvenile felony adjudications and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.
The defendant was arraigned today on charges of Attempted Rape in the First Degree, two counts of Robbery in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, three counts of Indecent Liberties, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm in the Second Degree, Residential Burglary, Theft in the Third Degree, and Attempted Kidnapping in the Second Degree.
He pled not guilty. Bail was set at $2 million. The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be forthcoming. Charges are only allegations and a person is presumed innocent unless he or she is proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
