March Update


Thank you for your interest in the Community Plan Updates!

In consideration of the well-being of all participants, we ask that you please stay home if you are sick the day of a meeting. Universal precautions are being taken within all facilities to include extra disinfection of facilities and we encourage participants to carry personal sanitation items as well. Anyone presenting signs of sickness which could put other participants at risk will be asked to leave the premises. Thank you for your sensitivity and cooperation.

Submit written comment on community plans to Planning Commission by March 4
The deadline to submit written public comment to the Pierce County Planning Commission about updates to the Frederickson, Mid-County, Parkland-Spanaway-Midland and South Hill community plans is March 4.

Comments can be submitted via email to [email protected] or in person to the Pierce County Planning and Public Works Department’s Long Range Planning team, located at 2401 S 35th St., Suite 2, in Tacoma. In-person comments must be submitted by 3:30 p.m. on March 4.

Future public comment
At the March 3 and 4 public hearings, public testimony about proposed changes discussed at that meeting will be accepted. See meeting details under the “Upcoming meetings” section below.

Additional opportunities for written and in-person public comment will be available during the Pierce County Council’s consideration of the proposed updates. Stay updated about council proceedings at piercecountywa.gov/council.

All comments after March 4 should be directed to Pierce County Council. Planning and Public Works staff is still available to answer questions.

Staff reports available
Reports that document changes to the proposed community plan updates recommended by Pierce County staff are available at piercecountywa.gov/cpupdate.

Upcoming meetings
The Planning Commission will hold two more public hearings in March at the Pierce County Annex, 2401 S 35th St. in Tacoma. Each meeting will feature a staff presentation, discussion by the Planning Commission, and public testimony about proposed changes presented at that meeting.

  • March 3, 6:30 p.m.: Review additional draft proposed changes to the Centers and Corridors proposal, which would focus growth along Pacific Avenue/State Route 7, Meridian/State Route 161, 176th Street East, 112th Street East and Canyon Road East.
  • March 4, 6:30 p.m.: Review additional draft changes and potential amendments for the community plan updates.
 
The commission will make a final recommendation on each plan, associated development regulations, and amendments to the Pierce County Comprehensive Plan in March. There will be no public testimony.
  • March 10, 6:30 p.m.: Final amendments and recommendations.
  • March 12, 6:30 p.m.: Final amendments and recommendations.

 
The commission’s final recommendations will be submitted to the Pierce County Council. The council will then consider the proposed changes for each plan and determine whether to adopt them.
