Environmental review completed
for proposed Community Plan UpdatesFor the past few years, updates to four of Pierce County’s Community Plans (Frederickson, Mid-County, Parkland-Spanaway-Midland and South Hill) have been in process. Community plans provide direction on how growth and development will be accommodated while maintaining the look and feel of each unique community.
The draft updates have progressed through public open houses, land use advisory commission meetings and the Planning Commission’s final recommendations to the County Council. Due to COVID-19 and the Governor’s “Stay Home, Stay Healthy” order, the council’s consideration process has been postponed.
Final Environmental Impact Statement released
Part of the update process includes environmental review that identifies potential impacts from the changes. This Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) is now available for review online at piercecountywa.gov/cpupdateEIS.
The FEIS supplements the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) that was issued on April 5, 2019. The FEIS addresses all comments received on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS). It also includes additional studies and modeling to support the DEIS analysis. Together, the two documents provide environmental review of probable impacts and mitigation measures for the Community Plan Updates proposal and three alternatives.
The FEIS does not make a recommendation regarding the Community Plan Updates. Both documents will be used by the Pierce County Council during their consideration of the proposal.
Printed copies of the FEIS will be available after Phase 3 of the Safe Start Washington plan begins, and customer-facing government services resume. There is no comment period for the FEIS. The FEIS may be appealed under the State Environmental Policy Act (SEPA).
