Prevent your food waste scraps from going to the landfill where they contribute to the production of methane, a greenhouse gas.  Managing organic scraps at home and returning their nutrients to the soil helps aid in the retention of carbon in soil.  Several options will be explored including vermicomposting, trench composting, digesters, Bokashi, and the use of tumblers and other self-contained composting systems.
