Request a Permit Expiration Extension
To help keep building and development projects moving forward during the pandemic, the Pierce County Council passed Ordinance 2020-46, which allows Planning & Public Works to extend expiration dates associated with permit applications and approvals. The Ordinance also allows the Hearing Examiner to postpone administrative hearings, including appeal hearings, during the State of Emergency. The Governor’s emergency declaration began on February 29, 2020 and remains in effect.
You can continue to request permit expiration extensions. A second six-month extension is also available, if necessary.
Our hope is that the permit expiration extension gives our customers time to navigate the challenges brought on by the pandemic and continue forward progress on their projects.
To request an extension, please contact the staff member assigned to your project before your application expires. All requests must be made while the permit is still in an active status—we are unable to activate expired applications.
