Building Code Implementation Date Postponed to July 1, 2021

In response to COVID-19, the Washington State Building Code Council (SBCC) has again delayed the implementation of the 2018 model codes to July 1, 2021. These codes outline the minimum construction requirements for the state of Washington. This is the third time implementation has been postponed due to the pandemic.

The 2015 model codes will remain in effect until July 1, 2021 and can be found on the State Building Code website.

No building inspections or plan review on January 21
Our Plans Examiners and Inspectors will still attend next week's class about the code changes. Building inspections and plan review will not take place on January 21. In order to prevent any negative effects to the industry, our team members will be working additional hours leading up to and following the training.

The class covers the significant changes to the residential and commercial energy code, which includes a complete overhaul of the energy credits required for a residential project.

Please contact Nick Waggood, Assistant Building Official, by email if you have questions.
