This week I had another opportunity to visit a community vaccination site. East Pierce Fire and Rescue partnered with local agencies and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department to operate a drive-through vaccine clinic at the Calvary Community Church parking lot in Sumner. I am grateful for the countless volunteers and public servants who make events like these possible. I especially want to thank the firefighters and paramedics who made the Sumner event a success.
As we move back into Phase 2, I encourage you to maintain your vigilance by masking up, socially distancing, washing your hands, and following state and local health guidelines. Also, please continue to support our local restaurants with carry-out options or outdoor dining.
American Rescue Plan Act
Soon, Pierce County will receive $88 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, which was passed last month by Congress as an economic recovery measure. This is just the first half of a total of $177 million that the county is expected to receive. These funds can be used to cover a variety of needs, from small business and nonprofit assistance to investments in infrastructure. Over the last two weeks, the County Council has received briefings from staff on how we can spend this money, but also to begin strategizing as a Council about how this money can best be used in our communities.
While the council is deliberating on how we should best use these funds, I want to hear your ideas on how you think we should distribute the money. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with your thoughts and suggestions.
Half Dollar Park
Pierce County Parks is currently seeking public feedback for a new community park in the 2nd Council District. Half Dollar Park is 3.5 acres of undeveloped property located on South Hill along 94th Avenue East between 120th and 122nd St. Once completed it will serve as a community park for the residents of South Hill, as well as a trailhead for the Pipeline Trail.
