Now accepting Rollback Relief Grant applications
This week the Pierce County Council approved $4 million to help small businesses impacted by the Phase 2 rollback. While I am frustrated that Pierce County did not receive more vaccines from our state supply chain prior to Governor Inslee’s decision to revert us back to Phase 2, I am glad that we as a council were able to respond and give our small businesses assistance to navigate this sudden change. Qualifying businesses and non-profits may receive a one-time grant of up to $10,000. Learn more about this grant and to see if your organization qualifies at this dedicated site.
American Rescue Plan Act
Soon, Pierce County will receive $88 million from the American Rescue Plan Act, which was passed last month by Congress as an economic recovery measure. This is just the first half of a total of $177 million that the county is expected to receive. These funds can be used to cover a variety of needs, from small business and nonprofit assistance to investments in infrastructure. Over the last couple of weeks, the County Council received briefings from staff on how we can spend this money, and also began strategizing as a Council how this money can best be used in our communities.
Last week I asked for your input on how we should allocate this money and I have received amazing feedback so far. We still have time to finalize how these funds will be distributed so please continue sending me your thoughts and suggestions.
Half Dollar Park
Pierce County Parks is currently seeking public feedback for a new community park in the 2nd Council District. Half Dollar Park is 3.5 acres of undeveloped property located on South Hill along 94th Avenue East between 120th and 122nd St. Once completed it will serve as a community park for the residents of South Hill, as well as a trailhead for the Pipeline Trail.
