Approved in 2020, the updates are now in place
The Pierce County Council recently approved Community Plan updates for the communities of Frederickson, Mid-County, Parkland-Spanaway-Midland and South Hill.
Today (Oct.1) those updates finally take effect. They included the Centers and Corridors concept that addresses rapid growth, traffic, jobs and housing in these areas that make up the majority of Pierce County’s central urban growth area.
Along with the significant community outreach and stakeholder group engagement conducted during the drafting of the updates, Council held multiple public hearings on the proposed updates before finally approving them. As we neared the Oct. 1 effective date, Pierce County's Planning and Public Works Department continued to provide information for the public to know what the changes mean.
If you missed the department's "Lunch and Learn" from last month, you can find it on the Community Plan Updates website along with:
- An interactive PDF resource document to help you navigate and understand adopted changes.
- Interactive maps to view adopted zoning and residential use changes.
- All ordinances associated with the Community Plan Updates and Centers and Corridors legislation.
- Additional resources like presentations, resources packets, staff reports and Environmental Impact Statement.
If you were involved in the legislative process, I want to extend my thanks for your interest in helping to make sure we are thoughtful about future growth, while addressing the current needs of our communities and those who live there.
