Public comment period is open until Nov. 11
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is seeking public comment on a draft Integrated Feasibility Report and Environmental Assessment (IFR/EA) for a potential project in Pierce County to address flooding concerns.
The comment period closes Nov. 11, 2021.
The Army Corps of Engineers is leading the project that identifies and evaluates alternatives for managing the flood risks along the Jones Levee in the city of Orting. The recommended plan, as submitted by the federal agency, consists of three major components: a setback levee, breaching the existing levee and engineered log jams.
If the feasibility study supports moving forward with the project, Pierce County will enter a contract with the Army Corps of Engineers to start a formal design process.
The draft IFR/EA is available for review online.
More information on the proposal can be found on the Army Corps of Engineers website and the Pierce County project website.
