Dear Friends,
What can we say to take away the pain of losing such a young man, husband, father, son, defender of you and me? There are no words, but we can pray that there will be no more of these tragic losses.
Deputy Dominique “Dom” Calata, who embodied servant leadership, was adored by his family and respected by his co-workers. You can sense his joy for life, family and career in the short 2018 interview with KBTC Public Television.
Whether through his deployments with the U.S. Army, his commitment to the National Guard or his employment with the Sheriff’s Department and the Edgewood Police Department, Deputy Calata found purpose in helping and protecting others.
The Pierce County Council extends condolences to Deputy Calata’s family, friends and our Sheriff’s Department who lost a loved one and colleague.
Our prayers are also with Sgt. Rich Scaniffe, now recovering from his injuries while mourning the loss of a colleague and friend.
Legacy Fund
The Sheriff’s Department has shared information about a legacy fund established to support Deputy Calata’s family. Cash and check donations will be accepted at TAPCO Credit Union. Donations can be made to the PayPal account. 100% of donations will go to the family.
Memorials/Public Gatherings
Memorials are set up in front of the PCSD South Hill Precinct (271 John Bananola Way E) and the Edgewood Police Department (2224 104th Ave E). The public can leave flowers or messages, or even just gather to show support.
Grateful for Deputy Calata and his family,
