Budget Supplemental Adoption
As some of you may have seen by now, last week the County Council passed a supplemental budget to reallocate funds previously allocated from the American Rescue Plan Act. A major factor in this necessary change was to address the significant shortage of sheriff’s department deputies we are seeing in the county.
Through the ARPA reallocation, $10 million will go to the county’s general fund for revenue replacement. The remaining $10 million was divided between other needs, including a requested $4 million to offer recruitment and retention bonuses, and salary increases for Pierce County Sheriff’s Department deputies. While council approved the appropriation, the contract is still subject to approval by the bargaining unit. While this doesn’t fill the many vacancies we currently have, it will allow our county the ability to compete for the best officers out there.
