Monday, I attended the Memorial Day service at the Orting Soldiers Home. The Chaplain gave a very moving message. He spoke of the importance of remembering those who stood for freedom, despite the risk of knowing they may not make it home…and we were there to honor those who didn’t.
He then reminded us of how special the residents are. He commented on the heroes our youth see and admire in the movies, in video games or Saturday morning cartoons. He then said…"if you want your children to know a real hero, bring them here to the Home."
The social effects of the response to the virus were not kind to our veterans. If you are contemplating a way to get involved with a community that matters, please consider visiting or volunteering to make a difference in the lives of real heroes. Bring your children. Introduce them to our real heroes! They love visitors. I was told Friday evenings are a good time to stop by. You may want to call (360-893-4511) to confirm when it is a good time to visit.
I’d also like to give a short update on the horse arena at Frontier Park. We believe we’ve got the plan to get it in the proper shape for public use. I’m told the work will start sooner rather than later. Be watching the Park’s reader board for updates.
Hoping you have a wonderful weekend…looks like the gardens will get well watered.
