Dear Friends,
Last July, an attentive constituent wrote and asked me if I was aware of an airport possibly coming to the district. My answer was no, I wasn’t. After some research, I learned that there are 2 sites off Highway 702 being considered. It seemed highly implausible. The topography has limited the property owners from utilizing their property, so why would we think an airport could locate there?
Regardless, an article in the TNT today has caused me to question my assessment. The article revealed information that was never disclosed to me, such as… “In all three scenarios, the “Pierce County Central” site was perceived favorably for its ability to accommodate any airport option, with suitable flat terrain to develop a project of each scale. There are no historical resources, hazardous materials or critical habitats on the site. And for more than three million people, it is within a 90-minute drive — the farthest distance that most people are willing to commute to fly, the analysis said.
At this point, I am encouraging you to share your thoughts to the Commercial Aviation Coordinating Commission. On their page you can sign up for notices and access to their meetings. They have a meeting at 9 am tomorrow, September 23. I will try to be on it. See links below.
