Dear Friends,
We’re already into February. The year is starting out with a flurry of activities, namely lobbying to make sure the Legislature understands that considering an airport greenfield in Pierce County is not a good idea and ask that they reject the current recommendations. I believe common sense will prevail. We have a lot of smart and active citizens working hard to promote proper choices. My resolution against a new airport in the county will be heard at the Council meeting Monday afternoon.
Proposal No. R2023-11, a resolution recognizing February 2023 as "National Parent Leadership Month" will be heard. I appreciate this opportunity to recognize the value of parents--the most important and toughest job around.
Another item on everyone’s mind is the proposed village for the chronic homeless. There are still many questions and details being hammered out. I am paying attention to what my constituent base is sharing. As a reminder, here is the link to the County’s website that is designed to inform and engage you in the process and progress of the village proposal. As of this writing, nothing new has been scheduled. We are waiting for a report that asks to clarify some details.
Here is a link that takes you to next week’s agenda. It includes presentations that will be in committees. I highly recommend you take a look at the plans being presented to the Council. On electronic page 15, you can see a chart (expanded view) of what has been scheduled for the coming weeks.
On electronic page 11 is a link to the materials for the Community Development Committee. There you can see the power points for Long Range Planning (2023) and the 2024 Comprehensive Plan Update. As a side bar, check out 15 Minute Cities. I also found an interesting article on that here. I would love your input on that concept. (I do not endorse advertisements that may show up)
Human Services (electronic page 12) will have presentations from Social Change Partners, LLC and the Birth to 25 Board on the Puget Sound Taxpayers Accountability Account (PSTAA).
Mark your calendar for the March 10, annual Graham Business Association auction for BEST Scholarships for Bethel Students. More details to come.
There’s so much more to talk about, but we’ll get to some of it next time.
Grateful for you!
