Saturday, March 11, marked the Two-Year Anniversary of the American Rescue Plan Act, or ARPA. A critical component of this federal legislation was direct fiscal relief to local governments. Pierce County received $175 million in ARPA that was used for many projects that benefited people and Pierce County communities. To commemorate the ways the County was able to use ARPA dollars to help communities large and small, Councilmembers reflected on several projects that stood out to them as innovative ways to invest in the County.
One of those investments was in The Market's Food Locker Pilot program to provide greater access to food for rural communities! As of March 16, The Market, located in Bonney Lake, has delivered 1600 grocery orders to families in East Pierce County. The next sites will be in Orting, Carbonado, and Wilkeson as The Market expands its rural network. You can find other projects and programs that were supported by ARPA by searching #PierceCountyARPA on social media.
