Every year, each of the seven Pierce County Councilmembers hosts an evening in-district Council meeting, and in 2023, the Council is committing in-district meetings to support engagement in local government. For me, I’m focusing that local government engagement among young people who will be of voting age in the next four years. That's why this year's District 1 In-district meeting will be at the White River High School in Buckley on Wednesday, May 3 at 6 p.m.
What: District One In-District Meeting
Where: White River High School, 26928 120th St E, Buckley, WA 98321
When: Wednesday, May 3, at 6 p.m.
There is a lot of attention directed toward national and state politics, but to some extent, the County’s legislative process gets lost or misunderstood. What affects our daily lives the most is the impact of local policy decisions and regulations made at the County level, and I hope to show young people what local government looks like and why it’s important to engage in local policymaking.
I spoke with Dr. Scott Harrison, who serves as the Superintendent for the White River School District, about this several weeks ago, and I’m so thankful he was willing and ready to support.
“I’m grateful for the Council’s leadership as we work to increase civic engagement and dialogue at all levels of government,” said Harrison. “We face many challenges that will require unique solutions; it is critical that we continue to raise awareness so our community is part of the process when important decisions are being made that will impact us all.”
I look forward to seeing you all at my 2023 In-district Meeting!
