Earlier this year, I visited Wilkeson and Carbonado to learn more about the ghost towns of Pierce County along the Carbon River Valley. These coal towns and the people who worked in them contributed greatly to the economic growth of Tacoma and the greater Pierce County area.
East Pierce County is full of history just like this, which is why I'm excited to share that the application opening date for Landmark and Historic Preservation grants is coming soon! The Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission meeting will finalize all the details at their Tuesday, Aug. 15, meeting and will post soon after.
In the meantime, there's a new webpage with more details on the grant that you can find here. Together, let's preserve our County's history and remind everyone about East Pierce County's role in helping us become the County we are today.
