Jim McCune

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

There is always something stirring in the 3rd Council District to keep us busy. I hope this quick update offers interesting information.

I am very optimistic that the 3rd Council District will (hopefully in the near future) have a unique park with the ability to host world–class rowing events, in addition to offering educational and aquatic-based opportunities at Kapowsin Lake.

The best description of this plan is written by a gentleman (Bill) who was instrumental in developing the Pocock Rowing Center in Seattle.  Based on that model, and years of experience, a resolution requesting DNR to work with private parties, the Legislature, and County staff to develop a park at Lake Kapowsin was presented last Monday to  the Community Development Committee. It passed unanimously. The full council will vote on it at next Tuesday’s council meeting.

DNR has been reaching out the to the public for input on their desire for the lake to be designated as an aquatic reserve.  Your input on both proposals is appreciated.

Volunteer awards
Lastly, I am pleased to share the story of an award presented to Rick Adams of Ashford. Rick spent decades generating community support for the Ashford County Park. In 2010, crews constructed and dedicated an elaborate playground, restrooms, trails, and parking. Phase II of the 84-acre park will be dedicated in 2015, including additional restrooms, parking and a new amphitheater.

Thank you for the opportunity to share some highlights. I would, however, very much appreciate hearing what topics you would like to read about. Please feel free to contact me using the information below.

Sincerely,
Jim McCune
