Council approves Chambers Creek Regional Master Site Plan update

Thank you to all of the residents who have contacted the Council regarding the Chambers Creek Regional Master Site Plan Update. It’s great to see the community care so much about this regional park to ensure that it is maintained for generations. Your comments were and continue to be entered into the record for the Chambers Creek Regional Master Site Plan Update Ordinance 2017-42. If you were unable to attend the meeting you can review the recording from the September 12 Council meeting by clicking here.

As part of the regular ten year cycle, Pierce County went through an extensive public process to update the 2007 Chambers Creek Properties Master Site Plan (MSP) and existing environmental documentation. The proposed update primarily focused on a comprehensive development plan for the south area of the regional park. The Chambers Creek MSP had gone through over a year of public process; open houses, surveys, planning commissions, approved by City of Lakewood, City of University Place, and was finally before the County Council. The Pierce County Council approved, on September 12, updates to the Chambers Creek Master Site Plan (2017-42) which includes Chambers Bay Resort information.
Unfortunately, there was considerable misinformation regarding the planned resort development at Chambers Bay. The developers plans for the area to be developed brings more opportunities for public enjoyment of the park. The hotel/restaurant/spa complex will be built into the slope component of the site which is unusable for any other park function or utility. The villas will not become permanent housing on public property. The future growth of the public park is protected and the new Master Site Plan Update creates wonderful planning for additional recreational areas within the park. It is untrue that there will be less access for park public use. The wide open meadows, the beautiful trails and beach access and playground remain and are protected as the wonderful community asset that they are.
