Councilmember Jim McCune statement on fallen Deputy Daniel A. McCartney Councilmember Jim McCune is deeply saddened to learn of the senseless death of Deputy Daniel A. McCartney. There are no words that can adequately express our gratitude for his service to Pierce County, or our sorrow for his loss.
Deputy McCartney lost his life responding to a home invasion call just after 11:30 p.m. Jan. 7, 2018, involving two suspects at a residence on 200th St. E. in the Frederickson area.
"It is with a heavy heart that I write today, as there are no words that can ease the pain and sorrow that permeates the family of Deputy McCartney," said Councilmember Jim McCune. "The souls of our citizens have been shocked with a dose of sobering reality. We who are left behind shall forever be mindful of the ultimate sacrifice Deputy McCartney and his family have made. I ask that we all join in prayer throughout the day for Deputy McCartney’s family in their time of sorrow and for God’s protection over all of our deputies as they work to compose themselves and serve us another day, amidst the chaos."
The Sheriff’s Department is actively searching the area for one unknown male suspect, possibly wearing dark clothing. The department requests the public call 855-798-8477 with any information on the deputy shooting.
