New stormwater standards

Pierce County residents and developers will now be able to participate in the upcoming changes to the Stormwater Management Manual. These standards affect the cost of construction, how property is developed and the complexity of permit review.

In July, the Department of Ecology (DOE) released the Draft 2019 Storm Water Management Manual for public comment. The document adopted by DOE will influence and control what the County is required to adopt by July 1, 2021.

Your opportunity to comment

If you have developed property, designed or built stormwater facilities you likely have experience dealing with stormwater standards.

What has worked? What hasn’t?
What standards are effective?
What are the design issues?
What are the constructability issues?
What was most cost effective?

These types of comments could influence changes in the standards, ultimately reducing your construction costs and the time it takes to approve your permits.

The deadline for providing comments to the DOE is November 14, 2018.

The County will provide comments to Ecology on the new 2019 requirements. We hope you will, too.
