Status Update: Pierce County Community Plan Updates

We wanted to provide you with a timeline and upcoming ways to get involved with the Pierce County Community Plan Updates.

We continue to work with Land Use Advisory Commissions to update the community plans for Frederickson, Mid-County, Parkland-Spanaway-Midland, and South Hill. Currently, the commissions are finalizing draft policies and development regulations, which will be presented at public meetings in early 2019.

There are many opportunities to get involved in the first half of 2019, and we welcome your feedback on proposed changes.

Timeline

The following is the anticipated schedule for public meetings and hearings to consider these changes. Visit www.piercecountywa.gov/cpupdate for schedule updates.

Winter 2019: Open houses and Land Use Advisory Commission public meetings.

At the open houses, the community will be able to review an overview of the process and updates and provide feedback. At the public meetings, the commissions will listen to public comments and make a final recommendation about updates to their community plan and related development regulations.

Spring 2019: Planning Commission public hearings.
The Planning Commission will consider public testimony and make a final recommendation to the Pierce County Council about updates to community plans and development regulations.

Summer 2019: Pierce County Council final consideration of proposed updates.
At public hearings, the County Council will consider public testimony and decide whether to adopt community plan updates and related development regulations. If these updates are adopted by the Pierce County Council, they will set the effective date for the changes.
