Dear Friends and Neighbors,
This August has been so busy, and it’s not yet over. There are a couple of events coming that could really use your input and/or support!
Next Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the Pierce County Council chamber (10th floor, 930 Tacoma Ave. S.), there will be a special meeting of the Community Development Committee. Two items will be discussed:
- R2015-95 - On your property tax bill, there is a charge for Conservation Futures. That money is collected to contribute to the purchase of properties that have been identified as "critical habitat" for fish, agriculture, open space, and the like. The properties identified and rated by the Conservation Futures Citizen Advisory Group will be addressed during the meeting. A date for the final hearing on the proposal is to be set for September 1.
- 2015-27s - This ordinance relates to marijuana production, processing, and retail sales pursuant to Initiative 502 and subsequent amendments. It seeks to change current codes.
In a different, local issue, you may recall information that was sent out regarding a proposed park at Lake Kapowsin. The folks at the state Department of Natural Resources are holding their first meeting, and public comment will be accepted at the end.
It is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Graham Public Library on August 27, located at 9202 224th St E. in Graham. There will also be opportunities for public review of the draft plan in the coming months. Please RSVP to [email protected] as seating is limited.
Please note that there is no mention of a park in their plans; therefore, it is advisable for anyone looking for information about this project to attend and ask questions at the end. Attending meetings like this is where we can learn about things we’re not told. Please contact my office should you desire more information regarding any of the above information. I look forward to hearing from you.
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Sincerely,
