Julie Anderson serves as Pierce County Auditor, first elected to the post in 2009. The Auditor’s Office is responsible for elections, licensing, and public document recording. She’s a nationally-certified election administrator and state-certified public records officer, with an undergraduate degree in liberal arts and a master’s degree in criminal justice administration.
Her professional history draws on a wide variety of fields, including community corrections, human services, local government, public policy and economic development.
Prior to her election as Pierce County Auditor, Julie was a Senior Policy Advisor for the Washington State Department of Commerce, as well as a member of the Tacoma City Council. She was the Executive Director for the YWCA of Tacoma-Pierce County, managing one of the country’s largest domestic violence shelters and a groundbreaking civil legal assistance program. Julie also directed Episcopal Services for Youth, which provided crisis residential services to troubled and vulnerable adolescents. She’s been an Outward-Bound instructor, a juvenile parole administrator, and a political strategist.
Julie’s volunteer service is equally eclectic. She lends her leadership to:
- The UWT Center for Leadership & Social Responsibility.
- Washington State Bar Association’s Character and Fitness Board.
- Tacoma Sunrise Rotary.
- The American Leadership Forum.
- Sound Outreach, an agency that disrupts institutionalized poverty.
She is currently the President of the Washington State Association of County Auditors.
