1. How do I report a barking dog?

Animal noise, especially barking dogs, is a common problem. Pierce County’s goal is to resolve the problem by encouraging neighbors to work together to find a reasonable solution. 

Communicate With the Animal Owner

Talk to the animal owner about the problem. Sometimes owners are not aware of the problem, especially when they are not home. You may want to share some helpful tips from The Humane Society with your neighbor.

Make a Complaint

Complaints can be submitted by telephone, 253-798-PETS (7387) or by using the online form. This will allow Pierce County Animal Control to send a warning letter and regulations to the animal owner, making them fully aware of the problem.

5. Do cats have to be licensed?

Yes, and they can be licensed online or in person at the Auditor's Office.

6. How long can my neighbor leave his dog chained to a tree?

There is no time limit for an animal being tied to a tree, however there are requirements for the proper collar to be used ie: no rope, chain, choke chain, or prong collar can be used. Swivels must be used so the animal cannot become entangled. Also no chain link bigger than 3/16th of an inch may be used to keep the animal tied.

7. What is the process for taking an animal away from an owner?

Animals are removed for several different reasons. Animals are removed for potentially dangerous and dangerous dog violations as well as cruelty cases. All animals that are seized are done so with a search warrant following the investigation.

9. Are poultry or livestock allowed in my neighborhood?

Animal Control does not enforce these codes. Planning and Land Services is where the citizen needs to be directed to for this type of a call or complaint. Planning and Land Services

10. How do I update my pet's status?

You can update your pet’s status by calling us at 253-798-7445, or by filling out a Pet Ownership Status Form.

11. How do I report a dog that is a menace?

A citizen needs to contact the PETS line (253) 798 - 7387 line to report the complaint. The citizen should have the animal owner address and animal description prior to making the complaint.
