Dear Pipeline Trail Interested Parties:

Pierce County Parks submitted a WA Recreation and Conservation Office grant in 2020 and, though it is not likely that grant funding will be available, we are exploring options that would see construction on all or part of Phase 1 in 2022-2023. We are committed to moving this project forward to improve mobility and connectivity between rural and urban Pierce County.

Happening now

Detailed design continues for Phase 1, which includes trail development from 72nd and Waller through Orangegate Park. We’re planning to host a virtual open house this summer where we’ll present the final design, take comments, and update you on construction plans. In the meantime, we invite you to participate in the planning processes for Orangegate Park and the future Half Dollar Park.

Planning efforts are underway for both parks, as the Pipeline Trail will pass through them and they will be improved on the same timeline as the Pipeline Trail.

Other Park Projects to watch

Pierce County is updating the Orangegate Park Master Plan. Orangegate Park,150 acres in the Summit-Waller community, will be improved in approximately 2023-24. The park will include improvements to the primitive trail system for walkers, cyclists, and horses, a play area, a dog park, and a trailhead for the Pipeline Trail.  The final master plan concept will be shared with the public in Spring 2021. Visit www.piercecountywa.gov/OrangegateParkProject to learn more.

Planning for Half Dollar Park, approximately 4 acres in the South Hill community, began in early 2021. Half Dollar Park will be a community park and serve as a trailhead for the Pipeline Trail. Get involved in the planning process by viewing the virtual public workshop and taking a survey about the proposed designs at www.piercecountywa.gov/HalfDollarParkProject. The survey will be available until April 15, 2021.

We look forward to hearing from you in an upcoming survey, virtual open house or (fingers crossed!) maybe even in person as COVID restrictions decrease.

Stay healthy and enjoy Pierce County’s parks and trails!

Thanks,

Brianne Blackburn, Trails Coordinator
