Pierce County is preparing the Pierce County Airport-Thun Field Master Plan to identify the 20-year improvements for the airport. The master plan will identify long-term needs for facilities, equipment and services to position Pierce County Airport-Thun Field to accommodate community growth.
The 18-month process to update the master plan began in October 2017.
The plan will:
Position the airport to meet community growth and interests
Accommodate existing and future aviation demands as envisioned by Pierce County
Align recommendations with Pierce County revenue and return benefit
Meet Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety standards and grant assurances
At the end of the process, we will have a year-by-year facility improvement plan which brings projects, people, and funding resources together in a coordinated manner.
Mead & Hunt has been selected to lead the update on Pierce County's behalf.
Cost
The update is expected to cost approximately $453,000. An FAA grant will fund $408,000, while a WSDOT grant will fund $22,500. A Pierce County local match will fund the remaining $22,500.
The plan includes the following narrative report chapters used to document findings and decisions made during the planning process. Narrative chapters (working papers) will be uploaded to this webpage following review by Pierce County, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT).
The Master Plan Advisory Committee (MPAC) – made up of representatives from the aviation community, businesses, local and state government and more – will participate in working sessions throughout the process to develop recommendations. Pierce County's consultant - Mead & Hunt - will provide a presentation, and then lead a discussion with the MPAC members. The meetings are located at the Thun Field Airport at the Civil Air Patrol building, 16915 103rd Ave. E. in Puyallup.
